The Philly Way

http://www.thephillyway.com/
So we decided last night about 6:30 to make our way through the deluge and have supposedly, the best Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich in the nation. It was hard to believe that such a small place located in the small city of Milwaukee could be this great. We walked into the Philly style diner with an open kitchen concept. We sat at the bar area which gave us a great view of our delectable sandwich's being made.

We had both ordered the Cheese Lovers Cheese Steak with Grilled Onions and Mushrooms. The sandwich started out with hoaggie type bread and a layer of both white american and provolone cheese. The shaved rib eye was sauteed with his special seasoning, mushrooms and onions. Then it was topped with what else but Cheese Wiz!!!!!!!! Heaven!!!! Do not ask for lettuce, tomato, or peppers of any sort, they do not serve them with their sandwich's; in fact there are rules posted about why and why not certain things go on these great gooey subs. We had also ordered the Philly Fries, which were skinny cut and flashed fried to perfection with no salt of course and who needs it when you are dipping them into ketchup and the leftover cheese that pours out of your sandwich.

I LOVE CHEESE!!!! If you haven't noticed.
With each bite it got better and by the time I was finished with half my fries and half my sandwich, I had to throw in the towel and take it home to finish, which I did later that night. They truly do have the best Philly Cheese Steaks ever in the history of man and its not a Philly unless it has the Wiz on it!!
Also be sure check them out on The Food Network's website!

Water Buffalo

So I thought I would start off my first blog with one of my favorite new places to eat!! Water Buffalo is located on the corner of Water and Buffalo Street on the Milwaukee River. http://www.waterbuffalomilwaukee.com/
When you first walk in, you are completely taken over by the all the really cool abstract paintings, which I'm guessing are all local. And if you happen to fall in love with one you may purchase it for more than a pretty penny, but it does help out the local artist. I loved the way the bar was set up to your right, when you walked in. Which makes it super easy to sit an enjoy one of their many signature cocktails, may I recommend the Grapefruit Swizzle. It is awesome even for me, someone who does not like the mix of grapefruit juice with alcohol. It was not over whelming in taste and super refreshing for those hot summer nights.
Let's get to the food and ohhhh my gosh you are going to have to go every week to try something different because it's so worth it!!! The first visit was for lunch and I had the Smoked Turkey and Bacon Club Sandwich, with a side of their Chicken Tortilla soup, which I could swim in a vat of! The sandwich was great and had a good combination of flavors which was accented by the hickory smoked turkey and bacon. The pepper mayo just finished off the sandwich on a great note. My friend had ordered the grilled cheese also with the soup. It was awesome! I loved that they used more than one kind of cheese. It had baby swiss, cheddar and my favorite, smoked gouda all with a fresh herb spread and crunchy ciabatta bread, grilled to perfection. We both loved it!

On my second visit I had the Grilled Auhi Tuna Sandwich; which is my favorite sandwich they serve. I love the ginger mayo which hi-lights the fish and adds some spice. Truly an explosion of flavors in your mouth. My friend from work had their Pulled Pork Sandwich, that was layered with their own BBQ sauce, swiss cheese and bacon! What a twist on a classic!!! I had to have a bite, even though I don't eat pork and I loved it! Again we both had the soup for our side and again it was delicious.

The third visit evoked us to order appetizers along with our entrees. We had the Chicken Rolls and the Baked Italian Cheese Spread. We loved both and could not stop eating it all! The Chicken Rolls had a mixture of cheese, cilantro, peppers and chicken wrapped in a puff pastry and baked to perfection and served with an avocado sour cream for dipping. I almost had to lick the plate of the left over cream, it was a great combination of flavors with out being over whelming. We could not figure out what kind of cheese they had used in the Italian Cheese Spread, but we loved it all the same and really liked that they brought out two kinds of carbs for dipping which, were pitas and cibatta breads.

Be sure not to pass this gem up and the owners are a pleasure to talk with if you ever have the chance to run into them. They have great customer service and we had loved all of our waiters we had there.
